No More & No Less

No more no less Exodus 30:15 -"The Rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls" God is not out to oust us. Believe it or not, hell was not made for humanity. It is his will that none, NO ONE, should perish. It is when we surrender to his will of atonement for mankind, that we can lay claim to the result of salvation. God is the same, yesterday, today, and tomorrow- his principles do not change. Even in the old testament He wanted to ensure a level ground for all to afford atonement. With the sacrifice of His earthly form, he reconciled the world to himself, leveled the field, and made the acceptance of atonement through grace, without excuse. The rich can not buy their way in, and the poor are not an exception. Everyone must begin their journey of salvation the same place- at the foot of the cross. The price has been paid. Nothing on your part is left to do, but...

It is well

It is well 2 Corinthians 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight" I read this chapter this morning. The past few mornings I have taken leave of the Bible-in-a-year, to shake off the "dutifulness" about it I was beginning to feel. It has proven profitable as I have found myself pondering, and meditating more. I want to let God speak to me in our conversations, rather than me focusing on filling our prayer time with my voice alone. Its easy to get caught up in doing all the talking. 2 Corinthians 5:7 rang out loud to me as I read chapter 5. It brought to mind the Shunamite woman in 2 Kings 4, who, upon having her child die in her arms, runs to the prophet Elisha. Elisha asks how everything is, and she replies, "It is well." Now we, the readers, hold our breath in amazement, because we know the truth, right? Your son is dead! We want to scream to the pages. How can you say, "it is well" ? Then there is the writer of the beloved hymn, who loses his fa...

Nevertheless at thy word, I will

Nevertheless at thy word, I will Luke 5:6 Jesus asked Simon to let down a net for fish. Peter replied that they had been working for the purpose all night without success. I don't know how many times they let down the net. But all night is all night. Peter was a professional, so I am sure he employed his expertise when he went for fish. Now here Jesus tells him to do what he knew he had already done. What was the difference? It was spoken by the Lord. The mere fact at God's word being God's word settled it for Peter. He didn't fully understand, but he knew the credibility of the Lord. He simply believed that what He said would be. "Never the less, at your word, I will..." was Peter's response. He had to let go of logic and what "made sense" and simply trust God. It is in this same vein that God wants us to come to Him- as little children (Eph. 5:1)- simply trusting, beyond our understanding. When we take God at His Word- and simply believe, we w...

No Room for Error: Exodus 25-28

No room for Error: Exodus 25-28 I love trying out new recipes. Depending on the complexity of it, it is tempting to want to add my spin on it. I am not a novice cook after all. After years of cooking trials and errors, I've picked up some things. Using your sense of smell and your instinct when adding spices; the perfect stroke angle when beating egg whites; the proportion of dry to wet ingredients when making cookies or a cake; the importance of that tiny pinch of salt or nutmeg- all this comes with experience. So a new recipe seems to call on my whit and wisdom in the kitchen. Sometimes, however, things get a little, lets say, wrong. What happened? I didn't follow the directions, exactly. In this passage God gives Moses direction for the building of the temple " that I may dwell among them". It excites me as I read the precision and the creativity of the temple's architecture. When you get past all the lines and measurements, the rearing of the tem...

Hand in Hand: The Word and Prayer

Hand in Hand In m opinion, nothing goes more perfectly with oreo cookies than a nice hand-dunkable-sized glass, or mug if you will, of ice cold milk. Yum! There are other things that I feel pair well together: a hot cup of tea and a good book or crossword puzzle; mashed potatoes and gravy; my husband and I. The list most certainly goes on. I have been inspired to take a deeper look into this Word reading business, and I have come to recognize that all the reading of the bible will not do as much good if not accompanied by its counter part- the gift and privilege of prayer. Here are some inspiring words that I thought were worth sharing: " If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" -John 8:31-32 "If you abide in me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you" - John 15:7 Abide means to live, to dwell, to reside. "You have to live w...
