A Lesson on Pentecost

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel      after that time,” declares the  Lord . “I will put my law in their minds      and write it on their hearts. I will be their God,      and they will be my people. -Jeremiah 31:33 "The festival of Shavuot is a Jewish holiday that occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan (late May or early June). Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day God gave the Torah ( or the law) to the entire Israelite nation assembled at Mount Sinai, although the association between the giving of the Torah (Matan Torah) and Shavuot is not explicit in the Biblical text. Shavuot follows Passover by 50 days." ' ( from https://www.hebcal.com/holidays/ shavuot) This is where we get the celebration of Pentecost. It is no wonder that the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit was on this day- 50 days after Passover, of which Christ was the Passover lamb. In Jeremiah...

Denominational Divisions

image from web What divides us? If you're familiar with math in any way you possibly recall the section in class where you learned about fractions. You know like 1/2     or     2/3 The top number is called the numerator, or the part taken out of the number at the bottom. The bottom number, the one which is divided is the denominator. For some reason, this idea of fractions, and the denominator always come to mind when I think of the word denomination. Why are there so many? Why are we divided?  For the sake of fairness, I tested putting denominations in both parts of the fraction. The first would look like this: If we put the various denominations at the bottom of the fraction, with Jesus at the top,  we imply Jesus is only a part, or a fraction, of the denomination. This poses a problem because believers like to advocate that Christ is indeed the center, no, even the whole pie. What's more, there's also another way to read this ...

This is That

Acts 2:4, 7, 12-17 4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 7  And they [the observing crowd] were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 12  And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13  Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. 14  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15  For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: This is That. What is this? "This" was referring to the marvelous phenomenon ...

This is the way you should go

Isaiah 30:21 Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, "This is the way you should go," whether to the right hand or to the left. Have you ever asked the Lord for specific direction? I have. I've said the prayer once or twice, Lord it would be nice if you could just tell me  exactly what to do right now, and I'll do it. As I came across this verse I realized that God,  He does speak to us. The question is, are we listening? (C) Chantel Dillard, 2014 God speaks to us through his Word. Are you listening? When we listen we respond through change. Isaiah 30:22 Then you will destroy all your silver idols and your precious images. You will throw them out like filthy rags, saying to them, "Good riddance!" God is speaking. Will you hear him? - Chantel

Understanding after Obedience: doing the great thing

2 Kings 5:10-11, 13-15 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.    But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the  Lord  his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.    And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?    Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.    And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the ear...

The pursuit of Holiness

Leviticus 20:26 . Not legalism. Not rules or standards or laws. Holiness is a state of being. Holiness is what God is. He is that which separates. When God is around, the line is drawn.  God's people are called to holiness. 1 Peter 1:15 . We are called to be obviously different, freed from the state of lawlessness that unbelievers are enslaved to. Leviticus 10:10.  The call of Holiness is not to deprave us of pleasure, it's to simply revive our taste for the pleasure of God'presence. Holiness returns us to our original design. We were made to be sons and daughters and companions of God. The commands in the Word of God are not exhaustive. The list of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5 for example- not exhaustive. The "seven deadly sins" as they've been coined-not exhaustive. We'd never succeed in following every single law. Instead, they are lights to our path to holiness-to God. Proverbs 9:10. They are, if you will, enablers. They help us become aware...

Believe, For Real

Nothing New It's one of those biblical principles that is repeated so often that Christians have lost the reality and the impact of it. How often have we heard in seminars and read in books, and seen in movies and the like, that if you believe you can achieve! Well what does the Bible say? Mark 9:23 says it this way- If thou cans't believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. If you can just believe,  anything is possible to him that believes. So there you have it. No special translation or revelation or interpretation needed. The infallible Word of God says, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE  TO HIM THAT BELIEVES. But what of this word ALL? No exclusions, no exceptions. And what of this word BELIEVES? Entirely convinced of the surety of a thing, even a present believing. See we believe, but to a point. Logic, rationale, and earthly wisdom win out over faith. We get stuck in pre-salvation thinking.  Ephesians 4:22-24 says that you put o...

God,The Word, The Gift of Life

John 1:1 In the beginning was The Word. The Word was with God. The Word was God. Revelations 1:8   I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. The Word is God. John 4:24 God is a Spirit : a nd they that worship him must worship him in spirit a nd in truth.   God is a Spirit.     Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy ( speak God-enabled utterances)... God pours out his Spirit. John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit , and they are life .   John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life . God's Spirit is Life John 3:34  (AMP...
