Our Help is in the NAME of the Lord: Psalm 122-124

Our help is in the name of the LORD,    the Maker of heaven and earth.- Psalm 124:8 Today's passage, Psalm 122-124 heralded several attributes of God. In chapter 122 he is the one who is desired. In  chapter 123 God is the giver of mercy. In chapter 124, God is the deliverer. Verse eight of this chapter caught my eye because of the wording. David does not write that his help is in the Lord, but more specifically, his help is in the NAME of the Lord. It is awesome that with all the myriad of names for our Jehovah, that every attribute of God is wrapped up in the glorified name JESUS. It is in this name that we can know God as Elohim, for all power is given unto Him in earth and heaven. It is in this name that we can know God as provider for he saves us from poverty. Jesus saves us from dis-ease. Jesus saves us from confusion- He is the prince of peace. And the list goes on. Take a look at all the names for God. It is worth going through them all, even if not all in one sitting. Ta

Simply Irresistible: Acts 5-6

Acts 6:10 "And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake." There it was in Acts 5:33- those who heard the gospel were cut to the heart. I recall it again in Acts chapter 2. The crowd was pricked in the heart at the hearing of the word. Of course the results were polar opposites. One group wanted to know more, and one group wanted to stone the messengers. There was, however, another uniting factor. The message of the gospel could not be resisted. Why? Acts 6:10 tells us the hearers in yet another witnessing opportunity could not resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. At first glance one would assume it to be directly the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit that could not be resisted. A closer look reveals in fact this spirit, being written with a lower cased 's', indicates something else.

Why all the fuss? Deuteronomy 1-3

Holiness: why all the fuss? This was the title of the message delivered by my pastor yesterday. Holiness is a word for separation, and today's reading in Deuteronomy 1-3,brought it back to memory. In particular I paused and considered verses 30-34 of chapter two.   30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.   31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.   32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.   33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.   34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain: I read this and thought, wow. They le

The treasure

When it comes to seeking out a hidden treasure, we are programmed to hunt, and dig, and dig deeper still. Therefore it baffles us, when we come to the invaluable treasure of the word of God. It is given freely to all, and is far above rubies, and, diamonds, and gold. Our instinct of immediately digging beyond its surface, fights against our ability to initially, simply receive. You see, with the Word of God, the treasure is laid out-no digging required. Receiving, believing, living,is all that's needed. "If our Gospel be hid,it is hid to them that are lost"- 2 Corinthians 4:3 -Chantel "Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health, even as thy soul continually prospers" 1 John 3:2
