Deuteronomy 33:29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.
Three things grabbed my attention in this verse- "Happy" and "who is like unto thee?", People saved by the Lord
1. A Psalm confirms that Happy are the people whose God is the Lord (Psalm 144:15)
But if this is the case why are cast down, and depressed and , just plain sad, sometimes?
Well I think in this word happiness it is more of a state of peace and contentment. It is not the happy emotion, but a happy state. For He will KEEP YOU in PERFECT PEACE if your mind is constantly on him( Isaiah 26:3). Of course, like when Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, and then began to sink, we sink into states of depressions and self- pity, when we take our eyes , or minds off of him. Emotinally saddened, yet spiritually happy, content and satisfied, in God.
2. Further the word confirms in 1 Peter 2:9 that we are a peculiar people.
But why are we trying so hard it seems to lower our standards to the soothing of the lost, rather than embrace our distinctions as children of God, and give the lost something to look up to rather than just look at?
3. And further still, the above are the distinctions of people saved by the Lord.
So it leaves room to wonder are we allowing the Lord to save us, or are we busy trying to save ourselves through more convenient man made methods, opposing the God-given, time and faith tested, WORD?
How confidently can you say these words?
I am Happy! Peculiar! Saved, by the Lord!
Happy? Peculiar? You Got it!
