Denominational Divisions

image from web What divides us? If you're familiar with math in any way you possibly recall the section in class where you learned about fractions. You know like 1/2     or     2/3 The top number is called the numerator, or the part taken out of the number at the bottom. The bottom number, the one which is divided is the denominator. For some reason, this idea of fractions, and the denominator always come to mind when I think of the word denomination. Why are there so many? Why are we divided?  For the sake of fairness, I tested putting denominations in both parts of the fraction. The first would look like this: If we put the various denominations at the bottom of the fraction, with Jesus at the top,  we imply Jesus is only a part, or a fraction, of the denomination. This poses a problem because believers like to advocate that Christ is indeed the center, no, even the whole pie. What's more, there's also another way to read this ...

Justice and Mercy

Here is a devotional that is so spot on- it needs to be shared. Enjoy! -Chantel " Justice and Mercy Newspaper headlines frequently express outrage at judges who are ‘soft on crime’. They come under attack for being too lenient and failing to impose the appropriate penalty for the offence committed. When I was practising as a barrister, I noticed that the legal profession did not respect judges who were regarded as too lenient. We expect judges to execute justice. We do not expect them simply to be merciful. On the other hand, we do expect mercy in our personal relationships. A loving parent will be merciful to their child. We expect friends to be merciful to one another. Justice and mercy do not normally go together. We tend to see them as alternatives. We expect  either  justice or mercy, but not both at the same time. Yet God is  both  a God who  judges with justice , and also a God of mercy . How can he combine these two apparen...

This is That

Acts 2:4, 7, 12-17 4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 7  And they [the observing crowd] were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 12  And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13  Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. 14  But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15  For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16  But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17  And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: This is That. What is this? "This" was referring to the marvelous phenomenon ...

Faith, Grace, & Blood

While reading Romans chapter 5 I was intrigued by the following verses: Romans 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith , we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:2 2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood , we shall be saved from wrath through him. Let's Define Justified.
