The title of this post provokes varying lines of thought. If you would, let's venture on a train of thought that begins with the word "express". Being the lover of diction, syntax, and linguistics, the word express presents itself in my mind as "ex" and "press". I want to know the meaning for the parts, both singularly and combined. Definition of ex 1 : out of : from : as a : from a specified place or source Definition of press 4 a : an action of pressing or pushing : pressure With this in mind we can gather that the word express depicts an action of pushing out from. When we make a facial expression our emotions are pressed out of our mind onto our face. When we say someone's art is an ex-pression of their feelings or their perspective, we are essentially looking at their feelings pressed out of themselves onto the tangible medium. ex·press ...
