Earnestly contend for the Faith: Jude

Today's passage is Revelation 18-22, but here I am one book behind in Jude. I just wanted to spend some time in this one chaptered book. I love that the Word of God is LIVELY and ACTIVE, and, though never changing, it is always revealing. I got stuck on Jude verse 3. The words EARNESTLY and CONTEND, made me think, wow, we have to put up a fight for this thing.

I read, and scribbled in my notebook as I went through. Here is what I wrote:

Earnestly: "with deep serious intent"
 contend: "strive against difficulties"
for the
faith:belief/doctrine

for ungodly men are crept/creeping in to turn th grace of God into lewdness
  • the wheat and the tares must grow together ( Matt. 13:25-30)
  • Satan was among them also when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord ( Job 1)
The Faith delivered unto the saints
What is that Faith?
The faith that came by hearing ( Romans 10:17) The hearing of the Word of God ( Rom. 10:17) [Jesus Christ is the Word of God - John. How can they hear without a preacher?  ( Matth. 4:17 How can they preach, unless they are sent? ( Rom 10:15) ( Matt. 10:40)

Jesus imparted the faith into the apostles as they heard the Word. In their hearing Jesus taught:
  • The Kingdom of God (Matt. 3:2, 4:17, 4:23, 5, 6:10, 6:13, 6:33, 13:19)
  • Baptism of water AND Spirit ( Jn. 3:5)
  • Having Faith ( Matt. 17:20. 25:21, Mark 11:22, Luke 8:25, 18:8, John 20:27)
  • teaching and preaching the gospel  ( Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-16, Luke 24:46-49, jn. 21:17)
So the above is what we must "with deep serious intent" "strive against difficulties" for-- the faith  or belief which was originally given to the saints- the called out ones, the ones set apart from the world.

I'm in. Now, Who is with me?

This was for me today! The phrase "pick my battles" comes to mind. But, with this crazy-faith-thing, we're either all in or all out. No battles to pick here! We fight them all with faith and the Word. We can't do any picking and choosing just listening and obeying. You've done it again Sis! Thank you Holy Spirit!

What makes believers different from the world? Not the "do'"s and "don't do's". Not the "wear and "don't wear"- and certainly not status, money, or influence. So what distinguishes believers from the rest of the world? Holiness. Holiness is not a practice that allows me to come to God. If I may, I propose the opposite! Holiness is the result of us drawing near to God. He allows this because of the ransom of blood that was paid, and the veil that was torn, to grant us access to His throne.  In order to draw near to Him, I must be first be covered by the blood of Jesus. This is achieved through repentance, and baptism in the name of my kinsmen redeemer- Jesus Christ. In short, I don't practice holiness to experience God. His grace brings me salvation which brings me near to God. My nearness to God makes me more like Him- Holy.

Mission: Christmas Blessing

Peace & love everybody! I've been so excited it's been hard to contain myself regarding today's mission! I hope that after reading this post, you'll be as encouraged as I am now! Known by most today as "the last Stalinist country" and according to VOM, "one of the most repressive and isolated regimes in the world", North Korea needs our prayers, monetary support, and volunteers. It's even being reported that a holocaust is occurring there as I'm writing this! Christians are being tortured, killed, and having "experiments" run on them all because they testify that Jesus is their Lord. Read a short synopsis of what Persecution.com has to say about North Korea and check out their related links. Thanks to our family over at The Voice of the Martyrs, we will be able to encourage and support our North Korean brothers and sisters! With our donations of $50 we will be able to sponsor a package that will have hard-to-get essentials, ...

Mission: Water4Christmas

Hi all! It's Missions Monday!! I get so excited! Truly! While on Beautiful Mess-Psalm 40 's blog, I was touched so deeply by her post on Water For Christmas! It's definitely a cause to support! We have all kinds of gadgets, movies, CDs, and gift cards that are all just distractions waiting to be bought and given this Christmas holiday. But there are over a billion of people all over the world who don't have access to clean water! Ridiculous! We're dying and killing ourselves over debt but our brothers & sisters are dying because of lack of clean water. Water has so many more  uses besides just drinking! Charity:water  says that the average American uses 150 gallons of water a day while the average person in a developing country struggles to find 5 gallons! This is what charity:water says to the question "Why water?" U nsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, and kill more people every year than all forms of...
